1. Project objectives
The main objective of the present project is the preparation of two novel drug delivery systems, namely drug-loaded nanoparticles (NPs) and electrospun fibers (ESFs), starting from original polyester-based block copolymers by two simple, reproducible, and scalable preparation processes. Nystatin will be used as the model drug and therefore the study of the antimicrobial activity of these drug delivery systems will represent a secondary objective.
2. Project activities
A1: Synthesis and characterization of PEA precursors
A2: Preparation and characterization of drug delivery systems based on PCL-PEA-PCL copolymers
A3: Evaluation of hematological changes arising from the “in vitro” interaction of drug delivery systems with the blood components
A4: Rating of the “in vitro” biomaterial properties and antimicrobial activity of the obtained drug delivery systems
